Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, blamed the Narendra Modi government for the economic crisis and alleged that the BJP government had “sold out the country to the US.”
“A severe wave of inflation is imminent due to an impending economic storm. The prices of gas, diesel, and petrol will rise. Fertilizers will become unavailable,” he claimed.

Addressing a public gathering at a Bahujan Swabhiman Sabha in Lodhwari village in Raebareli on the second day of his visit on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP. He alleged that they had betrayed the nation and “sold the country to the US.”
Pointing to the audience seated before him, he remarked, “You are all clapping right now, yet when members of the RSS tear up the Constitution right in front of you, you remain silent. I want to tell you that this Constitution embodies your voice and your very blood. It is your duty and responsibility to protect and preserve it.”
“When RSS workers come before you, tell them openly that your Prime Minister, Home Minister, and organization are traitors. You have sold out India,” he said.
The Congress MP further stated, “Now an economic storm is coming. Modi won’t be able to save you. Remember, just as he cried during Covid and demonetisation, saying, ‘Hang me,’ he will come on TV again. He will fold his hands, cry, and say, ‘It’s not my fault.’”
He continued, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi tells people not to travel abroad and not to buy gold. He asks them to purchase electric vehicles instead. In the near future, even farmers will be unable to procure fertilizers. An economic storm is brewing. In just a few months, you will witness how much inflation will rise — how high petrol, diesel, and gas prices will climb.”
“The Prime Minister openly declares, ‘Do not buy gold; do not travel abroad,’ yet he himself travels internationally in aircraft worth thousands of crores of rupees. And people remain silent,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi asserted that the ideology of Narendra Modi and the RSS had launched an assault on the country’s Constitution. He said the Constitution guarantees reservation and mandates the existence of a public sector to generate employment opportunities. However, he alleged that Modi had handed over the nation’s wealth to the Ambani and Adani groups.
He further claimed that the Modi government had weakened MGNREGA and privatized the public sector. Referring to the SIR process, he alleged that the votes of millions of people had been struck off.
“The Constitution mandates reservations. There should be justice in the judiciary and a free and fair media. But Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and the RSS have ended all of this. They have taken money from people’s pockets, privatized the public sector, and installed RSS-backed vice-chancellors in universities. They know neither history nor geography,” he alleged.
Rahul Gandhi also said, “If we fold our hands before Veera Pasi and Ambedkar, it is our responsibility to respect their ideology. If Ambedkar were sitting here before you, you would have raised slogans in his support. But if you then went out and shook hands with the British, it would amount to an attack on Ambedkar’s ideology.”
He added, “Today we are remembering Veera Pasi, but while listening to the speeches, I felt that Ambedkar’s ideology is being destroyed. Do not think this is an ordinary book. This Constitution carries the ideology and spirit of Ambedkar, Gandhi, and Veera Pasi. It was written after independence, and within it are the sacrifices of countless people who fought and died for the country. The voices of Guru Nanak, Kabir, Buddha, and many others resonate through this Constitution.”
Displaying a copy of the Constitution, Rahul Gandhi said, “Slogans alone will achieve nothing. Whatever happens will come through protecting it.”
The Leader of the Opposition further said, “I want the country to see the Mahatma Gandhi of the 21st century. Let Ambedkar be seen. These people will not come from abroad or descend from the sky. They will emerge from among you. The RSS and BJP destroyed the Constitution. They weakened MGNREGA and installed RSS-backed chancellors in universities. They know nothing, yet they occupy these positions because the RSS placed them there. This is how they have damaged the Constitution.”
Rahul Gandhi arrived in Raebareli on Tuesday, May 19, on a two-day visit. He reached Amethi from Raebareli at 2 pm on Wednesday, where he was scheduled to meet patients at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.
